Adventure-Ready Packing Tips for Monsoon Meghalaya: Clothes, Gear & Essentials

At Migrant Musings & Co., we curate adrenaline-filled adventures that encourage people to step outside their comfort zones and experience the thrill of nature. This September, we’re headed to Meghalaya, famously known as one of the wettest and most beautiful places on Earth. From caves and waterfalls to living root bridges and mountain trails, here’s your ultimate Meghalaya packing guide to make sure you’re fully prepared!

1. Footwear First – The Non-Negotiable

  • Carry two pairs of sturdy shoes (one can get wet).

  • Choose trekking shoes with good grip and sole (Decathlon has affordable options).

Tip: Search for best trekking shoes for Meghalaya to compare options before you buy.

2. Clothing for the Weather

  • 1-2 hoodies/sweatshirts for cool evenings (15°C – 25°C).

  • Raincoat/poncho/umbrella which is easy to fold and carry.

  • 2 sets of swimwear (you’ll be in water often).

  • Dry-fit t-shirts, tracks, and shorts — quick-drying fabrics are best.

Pro tip: Keep a set of swimwear you don’t mind repeating — more practical than bulky clothes.

3. Essentials Against the Elements

Protect yourself from both rain and sun — Meghalaya gives you plenty of both.

  • Cap or hat.

  • Sunglasses.

  • Sunscreen.

4. Fun & Entertainment Must-Haves

  • Playing cards, UNO, or travel-friendly games.

  • Portable speaker (for music and dancing 🎶💃).

Tip: For clothes, think colourful and cheerful — it’s a trip after all!

5. Health & Hygiene Musts

Carry personal hygiene products that suit you, including sanitary pads/tampons if needed. It’s common for travel to affect cycles, so being prepared saves hassle.

6. Medicine & Health Kit

Our trip leaders carry basic first-aid, but bring medicines that suit you.

  • Cold, cough, fever, sore throat, body ache medicines.

  • Motion sickness tablets (Avomine recommended for long rides).

  • First-aid basics (band-aids, antiseptic cream).

  • Snacks, water, neck pillow, and shawl for overnight journeys.

Tip: Search what medicines to pack for Meghalaya trip to double-check based on your health needs.

7. Money Matters

Carry approximately ₹10,000 in cash. ATMs are scarce and often unreliable. GPay and cards work, but only at limited places, so cash is your safest bet.

8. Adventure-Specific Items

  • Extra pair of socks

  • Reusable water bottle

  • Dry-fit towel for day treks & waterfalls

  • Zip-lock bags for wet clothes

  • Torches for caving

  • Protein bars or easy to carry snacks.

  • Life jacket (optional but highly recommended — In order to fully enjoy a spot!)
Please note: As we travel offbeat, not all spots have a rental option.

  • A spare old pair of full-length tracks and t-shirt just for caving (they will get dirty!)

9. Packing Light but Right

Everyone must carry luggage in one rucksack/backpack instead of a suitcase. Add one small handbag/purse. This ensures luggage fits into the tempo comfortably.

Tip: Rucksack is kinda mandatory for Meghalaya. Trust us!

10. Pre-Trip Preparation

Offbeat Meghalaya is a physically intensive adventure. Thus, prepare for it to feel more at easy and to enjoy more. You can underestimate the power of a common man but don’t underestimate the importance of physical preparation for this trip :p

  • Light exercise or daily walks to build stamina.

  • Breathing exercises to prep for hikes.

Also, Download the Splitwise app for group expense-sharing.

Final Word

Packing smart ensures you enjoy Meghalaya’s adventures without stress. At Migrant Musings & Co., our trips are designed to be safe, fun, and unforgettable – whether you’re swimming under waterfalls, trekking through forests, or sharing laughter over game nights.
