Vehicle and Luggage

This trip has been planned for a tempo traveller journey. Such vehicles allow the group to mingle, play games and have fun making the otherwise long journeys feel shorter together. However, in the event that the weather changes considerably, we may need to shift to cars as a back up. As we are travelling for a considerably long duration in this trip, it is expected for all travellers to cooperate and move seats. Everyone would need to take the last seat at some point and similarly window seats would also need to be swapped/ shared among all, so, no fixed seats for everyone’s comfort. 🙂

Given this terrain being remote (which adds to its beauty), we need to lessen the pressure on the vehicles. As insisted upon by the local drivers, all travellers must mandatorily travel with a rucksack only. Only 1 rucksack and 1 purse/ small back pack/ day bag will be allowed per traveller. For instance, a traveller cannot carry 1 rucksack + 1 duffel bag + 1 handbag. Similarly, vehicles cannot accommodate suitcases. Thus, for everyone’s safety and comfort the whole group shall travel with compulsory 1 rucksack and 1 small handbag only. A hack to pack in rucksacks comfortably is to get packing cubes.

If you do not own a rucksack, you may rent one out. Meet SharePal – available with rental, pick up and delivery options across 6 major cities. Anddd, with some exclusive discount codes for our MM travellers 🙂

Rentals are subject to availability, please plan well in time

Weather Along the Route

This isn’t a single-destination trip – you’ll be travelling across plains, valleys, and high-altitude regions over ~1800 km. Naturally, temperatures vary quite a bit along the route. Here’s what to expect:

  • Dibrugarh (Start Point): around 20°C – 28°C (Warm and slightly humid. This is your warmest stop – you’ll feel the heat here compared to the mountains ahead)
  • Pasighat (Gateway to Arunachal): around 19°C – 31°C  (Still relatively warm, but slightly more comfortable than Dibrugarh. Expect humidity and occasional rain)
  • Aalo: around 15°C – 28°C (Pleasant during the day, cooler in the evenings as you begin gaining altitude)
  • Mechuka: around 8°C – 20°C (Crisp, fresh, and noticeably colder – especially mornings and nights. This is where your layers really start mattering)
  • Roing: around 18°C – 28°C (Warmer than Mechuka but still comfortable. Evenings remain cool)
  • Anini: around 5°C – 18°C (Coldest destination on the trip. Early mornings and nights can feel quite chilly – thermals and proper layers are essential)

Weather wise Clothing Essentials

It’s the last of the spring, which means the valleys are lush and the rhododendrons are in bloom, but the mountains hold a pleasant chill at times. Expect daytime highs around 18°C in the sun, dropping to a crisp 5°C at night. April also brings the first of the pre-monsoon showers, so “damp but dreamy” is the aesthetic we’re prepping for!

  • 3–4 comfortable t-shirts or quick-dry tops
  • 1–2 full sleeve shirts (for sun + chill)
  • 1 sweatshirt/ hoodie to stay cozy
  • 1 insulated jacket / puffer jacket
  • 2-3 jeans/ casual pants/ track pants
  • 1 raincoat/ rain poncho
  • 1 light shawl/ stole/ scarf/ muffler
  • Warm socks (2–3 pairs)
  • For those who feel cold easily 1 pair of thermals as a precautionary back up.
  • 1 saree/ kurta for some MM&Co. style Bollywood madness!!

These will be especially useful during early starts, sunset viewpoints, and chilly nights in Dibang Valley.

Pro tip:  Avoid heavy denim for travel days – mountain drives can be long.

Footwear

While the trip doesn’t involve a trek, you’ll still be walking through villages, monasteries, and river valleys. So recommended to pack:

  • 1 sturdy walking / trekking shoes (very important) – these give you a good grip, make your feet pain/ ache less and give you the confidence to roam around freely
  • 1 pair of slippers or sandals for the hotel

Roads in remote regions like Anini and Roing can be rough, so sturdy shoes help a lot.

  • Sunscreen (SPF 30+)
  • Cap or hat

These will make your journey much more comfortable.

Roads in remote regions like Anini and Roing can be rough, so sturdy shoes help a lot.

Regarding Network

We love encouraging our travellers to detox and disconnect from the digital clutter while on trips. I mean, look at the views around you, soak it in and forget the rest, no? Bliss. However, we understand that you or your loved ones may prefer staying connected. Please note that mornings and evenings at hotels you will typically have network for calls. During the daytime journeys it is not that network won’t be there but network can certainly be patchy. Please inform your loved ones/ work place accordingly.

Regarding Hotels

As we head off to an offbeat destination, we must also acknowledge the limitations that it comes with. Hotels will be of a simple/ basic nature. Embrace that raw traveller in you 😀

Our properties:

    • Aalong : Hotel Yomgo / Similar
    • Mechuka : The Myst Hotel / Similar
    • Roing : Dibang Hotel / Similar
    • Anini : Anini Huts / Similar

Medicines & Personal Care

Medical stores can be limited in remote areas like Dibang Valley.

Carry:

    • Personal medications
    • Basic first-aid kit
    • Motion sickness tablets (very useful on mountain roads)
    • Paracetamol

 Optional but Lovely to Have

  • Playing cards / travel games

Some of the best moments on this trip will be quiet sunsets, bonfires, and conversations with strangers who soon become friends.

Final Note

And that’s about it – not just a packing list, but a little preparation for the kind of journey this is going to be. Pack what you need, leave space for the unexpected, and come with an open mind – Arunachal has a way of surprising you in the best possible ways.
